6Merchant Square
Back on Wilson St, the Old Sheriff Court fills a whole block and has been both Glasgow’s town hall and main law court. Continue east on Wilson St past Ingram Sq to Merchant Square, a covered courtyard that was once the city’s fruit market but now bustles with cafes and bars.
7Glasgow Cross
Continue strolling to this junction that marks the end of Merchant City and the beginning of the East End. The Tolbooth Steeple clock tower was once part of the 17th-century town hall. The nearby Mercat Cross is another traditional element of an historic Scottish burgh that indicated the place where a market could be held.
